DRIVEWAY PAVING
Asphalt driveways are done in two phases:
Stage I - Binder
First, we dig-out your existing driveway or stone driveway and dig down approximately 8-12 inches. Then we lay new stone
(or may re-use some existing stone if we deem the stone to be beneficial to the job). This process is completed one day
(depending on the size of the driveway). Then we come back another day within about 2 weeks to lay the asphalt. If the
driveway is not roped off, you are more than welcome to drive on the stone. The driveway will be rolled and fine-tuned
the day of paving. We will call you either one day in advance or the morning of paving to notify you that we are coming.
When we come, the process takes about 45 minutes per 1,000 square feet. We will rope the driveway off when completed. You
may walk on the driveway after 1 day and may drive on the driveway after 3-5 days.
Please read our dig-out information.
Stage II - Topcoat
We must let your Stage I binder go through a "freeze-thaw" period. Basically this means that we want the stage I binder to
go through a winter. After the driveway has undergone winter conditions, we can lay the stage II topcoat. This consists of
approximately 1 1/2" -2" of type #7 asphalt. This is a much finer asphalt than that of the binder. This process again will
take approximately 45 minutes per 1,000 square feet. When the driveway is complete, we will put a rope up at the end of the
driveway. You may walk on the driveway after 1 day and drive on the driveway after 3-5 days.
Your current driveway may only need the stage II topcoat portion depending on it's current condition. By paving over damaged
driveways, there is always a chance that problems can occur, however, this may be a more cost-effective method.
